Kim Chiu lost her passport to suspected thieves while waiting for her flight at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) last Saturday.
In an interview with The Buzz, Chiu said she was at NAIA waiting for her flight to the US for the Star Magic US tour when she found out that her passport was missing.
Chiu believes thieves who pretended to be her fans, who took pictures of and with her, were the culprits.
"Una nandoon kami tapos may nagpa-picture siksikan, sabi ko bakit ang dikit nila sa akin. 'Ako sige picture tayo ate,' tapos ang bag ko nandiyan, (sa gilid ko) yun pala, kinuha na ang passport ko and then...papasok na ako sa mismong airport hiningi ang passport ko eh wala na, dinukot na ang passport ko," she said.
Chiu said that she and her company asked the management of NAIA to help them find her stolen passport.
"Hinanap namin ng mga 3 oras, tapos nag-status ako sa BBM ko, ang daming nag-react. Si Ate Kris. tinulungan ako," she said.
The actress believes her wallet-type passport holder was the reason why the suspected thieves stole it, believing it contained money.
"We deployed, we alerted police, then we gave instructions sa mga janitor na baka naitapon, may kumuha at itinapon dahil walang laman. At positive naman na walang laman, dahil travel document lang ni Miss Kim," said Alvin Candelaria, OIC- Airport Operations Department of NAIA.
After hours searching for the passport, NAIA janitor Melchor Fojas found Chiu's passport.
"Nakita ko po sa basurahan nasa bungad lang, parang hinagis lang," Fojas said.
Before boarding the plane, Chiu extended her appreciation to NAIA authorities.
"Ang saya ko, after 2 hours na paghihintay at page-page, ito na," she said.
Airport authorities reminded passengers to be watchful.
"Huwag silang complacent. Sa hirap ng buhay, may nagpapanggap at professional, and they take their chance kung may opportunity. At ang mga dokumento, dapat laging hawak," Candelaria said.
