Should Wicked be worried?

For the first time, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark has surpassed the Oz musical as the highest-grossing show on Broadway.

Spider-Man beat Wicked by just $58 last week, earning $1,588,514, according to the New York Times.

Wicked had 100 percent of its audience paying for tickets (average paid admission: $109.76), while Spider-Man offered some discount and complimentary tickets during its preview period (average paid admission: $102.86).

Both played to full houses. (The Foxwoods Theater, where Spider-Man is showing, has 1,930 seats to sell, while Wicked's home, the Gershwin Theater, has 1,809 seats.)

The news means Wicked - one Broadway's best-selling shows since its 2003 opening - may have some fierce competition when Spider-Man officially opens Feb. 7.

Costing $65 million, Spider-Man is the most expensive production in Broadway history.
