The battle lines are interestingly drawn for Pongal and the season seems to be competitive. Four biggies are vying for honours and all of them are well anticipated films for different reasons and their big star cast and impressive technicians.
Vijay’s ‘Kavalan’ has bulldozed all the anti-sentiments generated against the film and is the hottest property for this Pongal. The film starring Vijay and Asin is directed by Siddique who is known for family entertainers. The prime focus will be on Vijay and his film during this Pongal holidays.
Karthi’s ‘Siruthai’ is also a remake with Karthi playing a double role for the first time. His roles of a honest police officer Ratnavel Pandian IPS and a petty thief Rocket Raja has kindled the curiosity factor among the fans. However the music of ‘Siruthai’ has not caught on yet. According to Karthi, ‘Siruthai’ is 70% of comedy and 30% action.
Dhanush’s ‘Aadukalam’ will be a surprise package of Pongal. With the hero Dhanush and director Vettrimaran in perfect tandem, the film is an eagerly awaited one. The tasteful finesse of Vettrimaran seen in ‘Pollathavan’ is likely to be in this village based film also.
Pa. Vijay’s ‘Ilaignan’ may be the dark horse of the season. This film directed by Suresh Krishna is the bigger film than the previous three in terms of the budget. It sis a politico-social film starring P. Vijay as a revolutionary along with Meera Jasmine and Remya Nambeesan. Bombshell Namitha is experimenting to revive her fortunes in a negative role.
Though there are some issues still being sorted out among the producers, distributors and theatre owners for the smooth release of these big films, we hope all will end well.
Happy viewing in advance!
