Veteran actor B. Saroja Devi has been honoured with the NTR National Film Award for the year 2009, by the government of Andhra Pradesh.
She starred alongside the N.T. Rama Rao for the first time in Panduranga Mahatyam, under the direction of K. Kameswara Rao. The popular star made her debut in the Kannada film Mahakavi Kalidasa in 1955 and won the National award for her role in the Kannada film Kittur Rani Chennamma. In Tamil she was introduced by MG Ramachandran in his classic film ‘Nadodi Mannan’.
The award carries a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh, a memento and a citation. Born in Karnataka, B Saroja Devi has acted in over 170 films in Telugu, Tamil and Kannada languages over a period of five decades.
